Vincent van Dijk and Yuri Bobbert have explored approaches particularly relevant for smaller organizations, which may not have the resources to implement extensive frameworks or hire full-time “officers”.

Yuri will set the stage for this discussion by reflecting on 15 years of research focused on improving cybersecurity maturity. This background will clarify the rationale behind this research.

Vincent has conducted academic research on pragmatic approaches for medium-sized organizations. He has developed a creative strategy for addressing the primary cyber risks faced by these companies. In his presentation, he will outline “what” his main contribution is, “how” practitioners can apply this approach, and “who” stands to benefit most from it.

Vincent will also discuss “when” this approach is appropriate and the essential considerations that experts should consider when working with relatively smaller organizations.

By the end of this session, you will gain new insights and perspectives to enhance your cybersecurity practices effectively.

Yuri Bobbert

Yuri Bobbert PhD, is professor at Antwerp Management School, CEO at Anove.AI and CSO at ON2IT.

Vincent van Dijk

Vincent van Dijk, MSc, is a cybersecurity expert who founded Security Scientist. With a rich data science and software development background, Vincent has successfully transitioned into a career as a cybersecurity advisor before starting his own company, Security Scientist. His expertise has led to innovative solutions like the Cybersecurity Canvas, a one-page method for designing and discussing cybersecurity strategies.

Vincent’s passion for knowledge sharing is evident in the resources he provides through his website, securityscientist.net. His articles, which cover essential topics such as cybersecurity strategies, NIS 2, risk assessments, and the NIST framework, are read by thousands of people monthly. By leveraging his experience and expertise, Vincent has empowered organizations to take control of their cybersecurity posture and develop robust cybersecurity strategies.

On LinkedIn, Vincent writes daily with new cybersecurity insights, ideas, and observations. At the same time, Vincent also appears in other cybersecurity magazines like the magazine from Platform voor Informatie Beveiliging (PvIB).

Allthough, Vincent primarily works on security topics like assessments, audits, and strategies. He still creates hundreds of monthly cybersecurity reports for a few well-known cybersecurity companies’ customers for services like security monitoring, firewall management, awareness, and training.

But in the end, Vincent is known chiefly as the “the guy from Denmark” since he lives with his wife in Denmark.
