Leon Yap is an internal audit professional, researcher and advisor with more than twenty years of experience in governance, risk management and internal auditing.

His doctoral research focuses on the effectiveness of audit communication and the so-called deaf effect , why decision makers sometimes ignore critical risk warnings. His research explores how musical elements such as pitch, rhythm, dynamics and emotional framing influence how audit messages are perceived and acted upon.

Leon actively contributes to the international audit community. He is a member of the ISACA Journal Review Board and a member of the organizing committee of the European Internal Audit & Corporate Governance Conference (EIACG). Furthermore, Leon is affiliated with the Erasmus School of Accounting & Assurance (ESAA) at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

He is passionate about bridging the gap between academic research and audit practice and about shaping a more creative future for the internal audit profession.
